Shelving Systems

Division 10, Specialty Section 10675

High Density Mobile Aisle Storage

HIGH DENSITY MOBILE AISLE SYSTEM SPECIFICATION

CONFIGURATION:
The High Density Movable Carriage Storage Shelving System will be an integrated assembly of independent, mobile and stationary rows. Rows of shelving shall be mounted on mobile carriages that travel along a track such that all rows shall be packed together tightly and an aisle can be created between rows by moving the carriages from side to side. Mobile rows can be moved by means of a mechanical assist system with the appropriate chain box and aisle safety locks. Each row will consist of rigidly attached sections of shelving of various kinds as shown on plans and elevations. Please see plans and elevations for the type of shelving required and then refer to the appropriate specification section for each kind of shelving shown.

GENERAL:
The entire system including carriages, shelving and tracking/rails will be manufactured and installed by firms regularly engaged in the manufacturing and installation of both steel shelving and high-density mobile storage systems for the past ten years.

DIMENSIONS:
The vendor will be responsible for taking and verifying all dimensions for design and installation. The vendor will also verify the capacity of existing storage needs and calculating the future requirements for growth.

MOBILE SYSTEM SPECIFICATIONS

The mobile carriage system shall consist of carriages which the shelving is securely mounted to. Each carriage shall have wheels that travel along a guided rail. Carriages can be moved by human force for smaller systems, or by means of a mechanical assist mechanism or electrically controlled motor.

RAIL:
Rail will be designed to be attached on top of concrete floor and allow for adjustment so rails can be leveled over an uneven floor. All rails will be convex, for self guiding wheels with anti-tip channels.

Rails will be located and positioned properly, leveled and grouted allowing for at least a minimum of .25" of grout under the track and rail from the high spot in the floor. The void between the track and rail should be completely filled with a non-shrink grout. Shimming of rails is not acceptable in whole for support of rail. All rails must extend completely under all stationary ranges.

Rails will be level and will not exceed .0625" maximum variation from true level within any module and .0625" maximum variation between adjacent rails perpendicular to rail direction. The rail will be a minimum of .625" in height and be constructed of solid 1008 steel. Each section of rail will be a minimum of 118" with shorter length used only to terminate each individual rail assembly. Each rail will be connected in such a way to eliminate any twisting in any direction to ensure the joint remains flush and be designed for the most severe operating conditions. Connection joints will demonstrate vertical and horizontal continuity and gradually transfer the concentrated wheel load to and from adjoining rail sections.

The grout used will be a ready-mixed high strength, controlled expansive grout with superior dynamic load stability, which when mixed with water will harden rapidly to produce a permanent foundation for the High Density Mobile Storage System. Grout will be non-corrosive, non-metallic and non-shrink. The grout after curing will have a minimum strength of 8K PSI. Grout will reduce rail deflection, maintain alignment and eliminate separation.

FINISHED FLOOR:
Decking and ramps are required when the track is not recessed into the concrete floor. The deck is to be constructed of a minimum of .75" type 1 grade 1-M-2 particle board (Supplied by others).

Finish flooring will be flush and level with the top of the rails.

There will be no open gaps between the flooring and the track and rail.

The ramp will be constructed and finished with the same material as the deck or manufactured from steel (Galvanized or Stainless). Ramp will not extend into the front access aisle and will be contained completely within the High Density Mobile Storage System.

CARRIAGES:
Carriages shall be designed to be stiff and secure to ensure safety and the pure transfer of motion from the wheels to the row of shelving without wobble. Carriages shall be capable of supporting a minimum of 750 lb per lineal foot without distorion. Carriages will have anti-tip arms to engage in the anti-tip channel of the track, and be adjusted to move without contact or scraping.

Each carriage shall have at least one drive wheel and two wheels minimum per rail. Wheels will be a minimum of 4" effective diameter, precision ground and balanced and constructed of suitable material for smooth operation and housing the appropriate load rate for each carriage. The dynamic load rating on the bearings shall be in excess of the wheels to ensure proper performance.

Fixed carriages will be of the same construction and height as the mobile carriages and anchored to the continuous rails located beneath the fixed carriages for a complete homogeneous system.

Bumpers will be mounted to the carriage face to protect material which may extend beyond the shelf face and provide positive stop for all carriages without damage or displacement of either material stored or the carriages themselves.

MECHANICAL ASSIST REQUIREMENTS:
Reduction drive mechanism must be designed to enable five lbs of force to move the entire system.

The drive system shall be designed to eliminate any and all play or looseness in the drive mechanisms, and for ease of locomotion and service

AISLE REQUIREMENTS:
Operation will be provided at each end of each possible aisle. Operator handles and aisle access both into and around the High Density Mobile Storage System will conform to all applicable codes including, but not limited to the American Disabilities Act.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
Safety requirements include protection for operator and protection for documents and media.

Operator handles shall have safety or key locks to secure aisles durring use. Security locks must be available for sensitive materials.

END PANELS:
End panels will be designed to allow quick and easy service to all components.

SHELVING SPECIFICATIONS

A variety of shelving options can be mounted on the mobile aisle carriages. Please see plans and elevations for the type of shelving required and refer to the appropriate specification section.
